Bad breath ( halitosis ) is emitted from the mouth. It all starts in there. Rotten food in between teeth can cause bad smell in your mouth if you don't brush and floss. It also helps in the growth of bacteria. Which in turn cause gum disease called gingivitis.
The food and drinks which usually trigger bad breath are onion, garlic, cheese, pastrami, some spices, orange juice, and soda. After digestion, the oils are suck up into the blood stream and lugged into the lungs. The odor is then release in your breath. Garbage in, garbage out. This can also be an indication of health problems. Such as chronic long infections, liver or kidney diseases and diabetes are some of health situations that can be the reason for bad breath .

As most reasons for bad breath are located in the mouth, its recurrence after the common grounds were addressed is cause for alarm. It might be that the underlying problems are health conditions like lung disorder. Even lung complaints such as chronic bronchitis and bronchiectases (where contaminated sputum is present) can set it off. Bad teeth can also spark off bad breath . Gum diseases like gingivitis cause the gum to be swollen or puffy. When you brush it bleeds. Just imagine the air that comes out of your breath. The first opening of the mouth in the morning can be nightmare. Almost everyone has an amount of halitosis in the beginning of the day. But there is a physiological cause why this happens. Due to little immobility of the tongue and cheeks when asleep, food deposits fester in the mouth. As bacteria begin to act on them, an obnoxious smell is produced like rotten food. Those suffering from nasal congestion by breathing through the mouth are more likely to have bad breath in the morning. Fortunately, after brushing in the morning bad breath normally disappears.
